HOW TO BECOME AN NFT MODERATOR
If you want to be part of a successful NFT collection, becoming the project’s moderator is definitely a smart way to do it. You’ve probably already seen the work moderators do in other NFT projects.
Moderators help grow the community, chat with members, keep the Discord active, work from home, and get paid for doing it.
If you also want to become a Moderator and work in NFTs, keep reading. We’ll break down exactly what a Moderator is, what they do, and the 7+1 steps to becoming one.

WHAT IS AN NFT MODERATOR
A moderator in NFT projects is responsible for chatting, answering questions and support tickets, creating engagement campaigns and activities, and overall, keeping the community active.
In short, their main job is to keep the community active every day to build hype, while also making sure everything runs smoothly inside the community.
Most projects usually have several moderators who adjust to the community’s activity levels and different time zones.
WHAT DOES A MODERATOR DO
- Community activity
- Creating fun community activities
- Shaping the project’s public image
- Chatting with members
- Assigning whitelist spots
- Keeping the community healthy
HOW MUCH DOES A MODERATOR CHARGE?
When it comes to moderator pay, a realistic range is $30-$200 per week. Keep in mind that this is not a full-time job. In fact, moderators often work across several NFT collections at the same time, and may also take on other roles such as Collab Manager or Alpha Hunter.
Of course, there is no fixed salary that applies to every moderator, just like with any other role. You can find moderators who work for free and others who charge hundreds of dollars per week. It depends on their experience and ability to perform as NFT moderators.
It is usually hard to guarantee results. What we can promise is uptime. That is why teams often hire based on previous wins in base across other projects. When that is not the case, moderator turnover is usually pretty high unless the project already has someone it trusts.

HOW TO BECOME A NFT MODERATOR IN 7+1 STEPS
First, understand that landing your first jobs will not be easy, and neither will earning what you’re actually worth. You need to be clear that starting as a moderator means entering a process where you have to grow until you earn your place in the industry.
1. CHOOSE YOUR BLOCKCHAIN TO BECOME A MODERATOR
To grow as a Moderator and work professionally to make money, you’ll need:
- A strong network of contacts
- Deep market knowledge
- The ability to build and energize a community
- A solid understanding of the project you work on
- Experience managing your community
For that reason, we recommend focusing on a single Blockchain, ideally the one you know best or where you have the most NFT, especially when you’re just starting out and still building your track record. The most common and relevant ones are: Ethereum, Polygon, Bitcoin, and Solana.
The reason is simple: these are the networks with the most volume, the most users, and the highest demand for NFT moderators for their collections. Of course, that also means more competition.
2. LEARNING AND NETWORKING
Once you make your choice of blockchain, your journey begins. At the start, it is essential that you understand how the NFT market works on your blockchain from every angle: the best-known and trending collections, OG collections, collections that are blowing up, what those collections do, which DAOs have the most influence, which topics are trending, which influencers have the most pull, and so on.
To go deeper on all of this, you need to spend time in collection servers, chat, meet people, and build connections. By doing that, you’ll learn, interact with others, and all of it will be critical for what comes next.
Also, if you have enough capital to invest in NFT collections, it’s worth doing (always with money you’re willing to lose). The reason is simple: once real money is involved, you’ll push yourself harder to learn and take it much more seriously. It will also give you experience and stronger market analysis skills.

3. YOUR FIRST EXPERIENCE AS A MODERATOR
Now it’s time to land our first experience and stand out so we can get our first gigs.
Let’s be realistic: it is almost impossible for someone to hire us with no prior experience, especially if they do not already know us. To land that first role, we have to put in the work.
The move is to get involved in small, newly launched projects. We need to be active, interact, and create energy inside the community so the owners start noticing us.
Once we have earned their trust, it is time to make a move and speak up. Talk to the owner and offer to moderate for FREE. Starting for free matters because it lets you prove yourself and get your first experience. From there, you can raise your rates progressively.
It is important that you do not chase people around asking them to hire you. It creates resistance and does not look good. We need to present a professional image. You never know, they may remember you later and want to hire you.
4. ACCEPT THAT YOU WILL GET REJECTED AS A MODERATOR
We cannot grow as moderators unless we understand this: we will get rejected constantly. It will become part of our day, so we need to accept it and adapt.
We should treat moderation as a challenge, focus on getting better, and aim for stronger results. That makes the whole process much easier.
5. BUILD CONTACTS
As we covered earlier, our first unpaid gigs are key: they can open a lot of doors. We also need to focus on meeting people and, most importantly, build connections with staff from other projects.
Keep in mind that in many cases, the people who interact in chat or open tickets looking for collabs are people working on other NFT collections. Being friendly and building a relationship with them can open doors for us and lead to work in the future.
6. BUILD YOUR MODERATOR PORTFOLIO
Having experience matters, but if we do not show it publicly, it does not do much for us. To bring all our work together, we need to create a portfolio of completed projects, ideally with details and results we have achieved.
It is common to use platforms like Galaxie.co and similar tools.
Include all the details, be original, show professionalism, and make it clear you can keep growing. It is also very important to stay active on social media, especially Twitter. It gives your work an extra showcase, helps you reach new contacts, and makes it easier for more people to find and hire you.
7. PUT IN THE WORK TO BECOME THE BEST MODERATOR
Being a moderator is very hard when you are not known yet. You will be underpaid and you will need to put in a lot of hours to make it worthwhile and stand out.
You need to understand exactly where you stand. That is key if you want to push harder and become the best. Your work has to stand out, people should recommend you, and you need to be memorable, unique, and clearly different from any other moderator.
If you innovate and bring something disruptive compared with other moderators, you will stand out. Your position will improve, and you can end up landing steady roles with better pay across different NFT projects. You will have the freedom to stay with the ones you feel most comfortable with, and more people will be interested in hiring you.
7+1. STAND OUT FROM OTHER MODERATORS
This step connects directly with what we covered earlier. It is only for the bold, for the people who want to reach the top instead of being just another moderator.
Innovate, separate yourself from everyone else, do unique things, and become the kind of moderator who sets trends. If you do this, you will not be asking anyone to hire you. They will be asking you to work with them.
You will have the “know-how” and deliver the performance guarantees that every top project owner is looking for.
One example we like and recommend is Cloudz. Cloudz is a collab manager who creates valuable content on YouTube and Twitter, which helps people discover him and gives potential clients the trust they need before hiring him.

HOW TO FIND PROJECTS THAT NEED MODERATORS
Now that we’ve covered the key steps to becoming a moderator, let’s talk about how to find projects you can work with: early-stage projects that may need your help to grow.
I’ll show you 3 methods you can use to find them and reach out. Keep in mind that the best way to contact them is directly through Discord. If that’s not possible, you can try a Twitter DM, but it’s harder because of spam.
TWITTER HASHTAGS
It’s very common for new projects to post for engagement using hashtags like #NFT, #Solana, #Ethereum, #Polygon, #Bitcoin, etc.
If you check these hashtags daily, you’ll find plenty of projects where you can offer your work as a moderator.
REFERRED BY ANOTHER TEAM MEMBER
That’s why the step-by-step guide puts so much emphasis on contacts and networking.
An NFT collection will constantly need staff to help build the community, which is why, in the majority of cases, new team members come in through recommendations from people already standing out on the team.
If you have enough contacts, take care of them, and build strong relationships, they can turn into work.
TWITTER INFLUENCERS
When projects are just starting out and trying to get their first users, they run promotions with crypto influencers. It’s important that you follow them and keep an eye on the newly launched NFT collections they promote, so you can pitch yourself as a team member.
COLLABS BETWEEN NFT COLLECTIONS
You can find plenty of projects that are starting to grow through collaborations. In other words, if you’re part of several communities, you’ll see them running collabs, and in many cases they’ll be collections that are just starting to gain traction and will increasingly need more moderators, collabs managers, and so on.
Don’t overlook this channel. Reach out to the ones that look promising. You never know where your next job might come from!

HOW TO BECOME A NFT MODERATOR: FINAL TAKEAWAYS
The takeaway is simple: if you want to become a moderator, you’ll need drive, knowledge, effort, and real commitment. It will definitely be worth it if your goal is to earn a salary from your work as a moderator.
Study the market, get your ideas clear, and map out your strategy. Go for it and put in the work until you become the moderator you’re capable of becoming.
