How to Find the Token Contract Address (3 Super Fast Methods)

There are three quick ways to find the Token Contract Address, whether it’s on ethereum or Layer 2. Here’s how each one works. Any of them will take you under a minute.

1. From Your wallet

If you hold the token in your wallet, the fastest option is to look it up directly in the app.

1.1 Ethereum and Layer 2 Tokens

In the MetaMask extension, here’s how to find a token’s contract address:

How to view a Token contract address on Metamask.
  1. Open MetaMask and go to the “Tokens” tab.
  2. Select the token whose contract address you want to view.
  3. Click the three-dot menu and select “View asset in explorer“. This will take you to the token’s contract address on the active network.

1.2 Solana Tokens

If you use Phantom, you can view the Token on Solscan by clicking the token and then the three dots.

2. Blockchain Explorers

Block explorers like Etherscan, BscScan, and Polygonscan index data on ERC-20 tokens and their equivalents on other networks. To find a token’s contract address, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the explorer for your token’s network (the most common ones are  Etherscan, BscScan,  Polygonscan, and Solscan).
  2. Search for the token by name or symbol.
  3. The contract address will be clearly displayed on the token’s page.

2.1 Token on Ethereum

If your token is Ethereum, head to Etherscan and search for the token by name or symbol in the top-right search bar.

On Etherscan, when you look up a token, the contract address appears alongside other token details. On desktop, a copy icon appears when you hover over the address; on mobile, it’s always visible.

2.2 Token on Polygon

If your token is on the Polygon network, go to Polygonscan and search for the token by name or symbol.

2.3 Token on BSC

If your token is on the BSC network, go to BscScan and search for the token by name or symbol.

2.4 Token on Solana

If your token is on the Solana network, go to Solscan and search for the token by name or symbol.

3. Token Listing Sites

Sites like CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap keep a registry of every token out there. To find a token’s contract address on these platforms:

1. Search for the token by name or symbol on the listing site.

2. On the token’s page, find the “Contract” section. This will show the token address on Ethereum mainnet by default, but you can view addresses on other networks by clicking the three dots.

What Is a Contract Address?

It’s a unique identifier for a smart contract deployed on a blockchain. It defines the functions and rules of a token or a dApp. It’s useful for verifying authenticity, tracking associated transactions, and interacting with the contract’s applications.

Can a Contract Address Change?

No. A contract address is recorded on a blockchain, and blockchain records are, by nature, immutable. A contract address cannot change under any circumstances.

What’s the Difference Between a Contract Address and a wallet Address?

Contract addresses identify smart contracts for programs or applications on the blockchain. A wallet address is used to identify users who can transfer or store crypto.

Where Do I Find a token‘s Contract Address?

You can find the contract address from your own wallet, through a block explorer (scanner on each blockchain), or a token listing site like CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap. These are the most accessible options for tracking down a contract address, and we covered how to use each one above.

I Have the Contract Address. Now What?

Once you have your token’s contract address, you can run a token snapshot to get a full list of holders for that token.
