WHAT WAS THE FIRST NFT ON SOLANA
We all tend to wonder how things started, and of course, the NFT on Solana are no exception.
Although there is plenty of debate over which Proyect NFT came first on the Solana network, the truth is straightforward. If there is one thing we know about the Blockchain, it is that it does not lie.
This is the first NFT mint transaction on Solana: https://explorer.solana.com/tx/4HqFpv5WUQAfKeqPrnfUnmNB3HabSL5Q31H5upMBZKEYC4CzTDFqNnTY5KDXcU59LsQsNQFeNJ9XL98msg5fKewe
Want to know which NFT pertenece?
In this post, we are going to break down the full story and uncover the real first NFT collection on Solana.

KREECHURES: THE FIRST NFT IN SOLANA HISTORY
If you do not want to dig into the details and just want to know what the first NFT on Solana was, the answer is: Kreechures.

Yes, this little creature you are looking at was the first NFT ever created on Solana. It belongs to the Kreechures collection, the true first collection where a NFT was minted. That said, it was not the first collection to sell out, and it was nowhere near the best known.

WHAT IS KREECHURES?
As we mentioned, Kreechures was the first project ever built on the Solana network. It was created “back when the space was still untouched“: Magic Eden didn’t exist, Phantom didn’t exist, and metadata for NFT didn’t even exist yet.
In that context, the first mint transaction on Solana happened on March 26, 2021, bringing the Kreechure NFT image you see above to life.

Originally, the collection had a total supply of 20k NFTs, but Kreechures did not gain enough traction to sell them all. After keeping the mint open to the public for a while, the team burned the remaining supply, bringing the supply down to 5,000.
These 5k NFT are made up of 49 Kreechures “species”, split across 3 rarity tiers. Still, the reality is that Kreechures never got the level of recognition it could have as the first Solana collection, unlike other OG projects we’ll cover next.
WHY THERE IS DEBATE AROUND THE FIRST NFT ON SOLANA
The debate comes from the community itself and from Solarians. They were among the first NFTs created on Solana, but they were not the first.
Solarians calls itself the first generative NFT collection on Solana and argues that it came first. But its mint happened in April 2021, a few days after Kreechures.
They have not reached the top of Solana either, but you still have to give them credit as OGs.

SOLPUNKS: THE FIRST SOLANA SOLD OUT
There is also some debate here, because the collections we mentioned earlier needed quite a lot of time to finish their mint. So we can say the first collection to sell out on Solana was SolPunks.
SolPunks completed its mint on June 14, 2021, making it the first collection to sell out and also be traded (though back then, trading happened p2p in a Telegram group).
In this case, they gained serious traction and held the Solana crown for a while, driving nearly $400,000 in sales.

SOLANA MONKEY BUSINESS: THE KINGS OF SOLANA
You cannot talk about the first NFT collections on Solana without bringing up Solana Monkey Business. They were, and will remain, for a long time the Kings of Solana because of what they achieved.
They held their first mint on June 2, 2021 for their first generation, which is not the one everyone knows today.

Later, in August, they minted the second generation at 2 SOL, the one that became huge across the NFT space.
SMB made history with the most expensive NFT sale on Solana, coming in at no less than +2.000.000$.

Conclusion
Solana has made a huge impact on the NFT sector, with numbers that are hard to ignore. Its story is still fairly recent, but well worth understanding.
The golden era was obviously 2021. Do you think we’ll see anything like it again?
