Differences between Pumpfun and PumpSwap: key points to understand them

If you’re just getting started in the meme coin space, it’s completely normal to mix up Pumpfun and PumpSwap all the time. But there’s nothing to worry about, because here we’ll walk you through the differences between Pumpfun and PumpSwap (and how to make the most of each one).

Before you keep reading, we recommend checking out our blog, since you’ll find plenty of useful info on Smithii, along with powerful tools to launch your project on Solana or other blockchains. Keep reading!

Pumpfun Vs PumpSwap: what sets them apart?

The first thing we want to do is clear things up. There are many differences between Pump.fun and PumpSwap, but both platforms were built by the same dev team. That’s why it’s easy to confuse the two, especially when you don’t know much about either.

Anyway, in the table below you’ll find all the differences summarized, and we dive deeper into each one further down.

What is Pump Fun?

Pump Fun is the most popular decentralized meme coin launchpad on Solana, and thousands of projects have started (and ended) on this platform. In short, you can list a meme coin so anyone can check out the project and decide how many tokens they want to buy.

The upside of Pump.fun is that, unlike creating a meme coin on Solana from scratch, you don’t need to launch a liquidity pool for others to buy your meme coin. Instead, Pump Fun locks in an initial liquidity that they provide themselves. That said, you won’t be able to manage the liquidity in any way.

What is PumpSwap?

Pump Swap is a DEX built by the same team behind Pump.fun. Here you can swap all kinds of tokens and create liquidity pools. In terms of purpose, it lines up with Raydium, the largest DEX on Solana, or Jupiter, another well-known DEX with growing adoption.

The PumpSwap platform launched at the end of March 2025, but the numbers are seriously impressive and it’s quickly catching up with other decentralized exchanges.

Pumpfun vs PumpSwap comparison

With that out of the way, let’s compare both platforms and what sets them apart from each other. Let’s dive in.

What is it for?

As we mentioned at the start, even though PumpFun and PumpSwap are built by the same team, their use cases are completely different. The latter is a DEX that lets you swap all kinds of tokens on Solana, create or add liquidity, and it’s designed to integrate with other DeFi protocols and dApps, though we’ll get into that later.

Pump Fun

Exclusively for listing, buying and selling meme coins on Solana. Among our tools you’ll find the bundler for Pump.fun.

PumpSwap

Swapping tokens and meme coins on Solana with no restrictions, and creating a liquidity pool to earn LP Provider rewards.

One of the biggest differences between Pumpfun and Pumpswap is that the first one is only for meme coins, while the latter works with any solana token

How to list?

The way Pump Fun and PumpSwap let you list a token is slightly different. On Pump.fun you just need to create the meme coin, while on PumpSwap you need two things:

  • The Base Token (it can be one you’ve created using the Solana Token Creator)
  • The Quote Token (a stablecoin or SOL)

Pump Fun

When creating a meme coin, there’s no need to add liquidity.

PumpSwap

Graduating a token from Pump.fun, creating a liquidity pool, or adding liquidity to an existing pair.

Rewards

(Update) With the Project Ascend announcement, Pump.fun and Pumpswap have overhauled their creator reward systems.

Tokens on Pump.fun now pay devs a 0.3% fee (up from 0.05%). Meanwhile, tokens graduated from Pumpfun and traded on PumpSwap pay between 0.05% and 0.95% of volume, depending on the market cap (if you want the full breakdown, we have an article covering Project Ascend).

When you create an LP on Pumswap, you can set a 0.25% fee, but you don’t get any rewards as the token creator.

Pump Fun

Starting September 3, 2025, creator fees go up to 0.3% on SOL per transaction.

PumpSwap

Graduated tokens from Pump.fun pay 0.05% to 0.95% in creator fees. You can also set a 0.25% fee as an LP Provider.

Pricing model

Comparing Pump.fun and PumpSwap, the first runs on a bonding curve, while the second uses an AMM protocol. That’s how each token gets priced based on supply and demand.

Pump Fun

On Bonding curve, the price goes up as people buy the coin and drops when they sell (early buyers benefit the most).

PumpSwap

Automated Market Maker, a protocol for automatic swaps through liquidity pools.

Future outlook

Here we’re talking about possible features they could roll out down the line, expanding usability and reaching more users. While Pump.fun is just a meme coin launchpad and nothing more, no other use cases have been announced for the platform.

On the other hand, PumpSwap is a DEX that can offer a lot of features, like staking, a more advanced trading platform, integrations with other DeFi protocols, and more.

Pump Fun

No plans to add other use cases or DeFi integrations.

PumpSwap

Staking, trading, DeFi integrations, dApps built on its AMM, governance token, bridges, or expansion to other blockchains.

The split isn’t the same across both phases. Here’s the full breakdown of pump.fun creator fees explained in detail.

Conclusion

The differences between Pump Fun and PumpSwap are pretty stark, but the two platforms actually complement each other. In short, Pump.fun is a meme coin launchpad, while PumpSwap is a DEX, and they connect through token graduation.
