How to Remove Liquidity on Ethereum: Quick Guide

You can pull liquidity from your token on Ethereum whenever you want, whether you’re pivoting your project’s strategy or just cashing out your funds. We’ll walk you through it in under a minute, step by step!

What to Know Before Removing Liquidity on Uniswap

Before jumping into the tutorial, let’s go over a few key concepts:

Uniswap is a leading exchange (DEX) on the Ethereum blockchain that lets users create and manage liquidity pools. When you add liquidity, you deposit your token paired with a value reference token (usually $ETH) at a set ratio, and receive Liquidity Provider (LP) tokens in exchange.

These LP tokens are the ‘key’ to controlling the liquidity. As long as you hold them, you can pull all or part of the liquidity at any time. That’s why it’s critical to keep them safe, or at the very least know whether you’ve sent them to any special addresses.

How to Remove Liquidity on Uniswap Step by Step

Let’s break down the full process for pulling your liquidity. Assuming you already know the pool address (if not, check the next section) or the pair you’re targeting, you can use the dApp called Ethereum Liquidity Remover (https://tools.smithii.io/remove-liquidity/ethereum) and you’ll see a panel like this:

Here’s how to use this interface:

  1. Select the pool address you want to remove liquidity from (we explain how to find it below).
  2. Choose the amount of liquidity you want to withdraw (either 100% or a partial percentage).
  3. Click ‘Withdraw Liquidity’ and confirm the transaction in your wallet.

Done! This way you pull out the tokens you contributed and they get credited back to your wallet.

How to Find the liquidity pool Address

To remove or withdraw liquidity on Uniswap, you need to identify the liquidity pool contract. This address is sometimes called the ‘pair address’.

What is the pool address?

It’s the smart contract address that manages your token pair and where you sit as a liquidity provider. You interact with it to add or pull your contributions.

When you created the pool, Uniswap generated a Pair Contract you can view on Etherscan in the creation transaction. If you didn’t save it at the time, follow these steps:

  1. Open Etherscan and look up your wallet address.
  2. Find the transaction where you created or added liquidity to the pool. On Uniswap, you’ll see a ‘Uniswap V2: Pair’ contract (or V3, depending on the version).
  3. Open that transaction’s details and locate the liquidity pool contract. That will be your pool address.
